What is the VEGAS PBS KIDS Writers Contest?

The VEGAS PBS KIDS Writers Contest is an annual creative writing competition open to all young children living in Nevada. This contest aims to inspire and promote the imaginations of our young writers while encouraging their love for storytelling and literacy.

Who can participate in the contest?

The contest is open to children aged between 5 and 12 years old, residing in the state of Nevada. It is an excellent opportunity for young aspiring writers to showcase their creative abilities and explore their storytelling skills.

How can I enter the contest?

To enter the VEGAS PBS KIDS Writers Contest, simply follow these steps:

  1. Visit our contest website at nevadabusinesschronicles.com/writers-contest.
  2. Create an account or log in if you already have one.
  3. Review the official rules and guidelines thoroughly.
  4. Choose an age-appropriate story category.
  5. Write an original story that follows the given theme and word count requirements.
  6. Submit your story through the online submission form.
  7. Wait for the announcement of winners and prizes!

What are the categories and themes for the contest?

The VEGAS PBS KIDS Writers Contest offers three age-based categories:

  • Category 1: Kindergarten to 1st Grade - Theme: "My Superhero Adventure"
  • Category 2: 2nd Grade to 3rd Grade - Theme: "The Magical World of Imagination"
  • Category 3: 4th Grade to 5th Grade - Theme: "Exploring New Horizons"

Participants must create an original story that relates to the chosen theme within the specified word count limits.

What are the judging criteria for the contest?

The stories entered in the VEGAS PBS KIDS Writers Contest are evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Originality - How unique and creative is the story?
  • Structure - Does the story have a clear beginning, middle, and end?
  • Character Development - Are the characters well-developed and relatable?
  • Language and Style - Is the writing age-appropriate and engaging?
  • Adherence to Theme - Does the story effectively address the given theme?

When is the submission deadline?

The submission deadline for the VEGAS PBS KIDS Writers Contest is March 31st of each year. Make sure to submit your story on or before the deadline to be considered for the contest.

What are the prizes for the winners?

We believe in recognizing the efforts and talents of our young writers. The winners of the VEGAS PBS KIDS Writers Contest will receive:

  • First Place: $250 Gift Card and VEGAS PBS KIDS prize pack
  • Second Place: $150 Gift Card and VEGAS PBS KIDS prize pack
  • Third Place: $100 Gift Card and VEGAS PBS KIDS prize pack

In addition to these prizes, all participants will receive a certificate of achievement for their contribution to the contest and their dedication to creative writing.

How are the winners selected?

The judging panel consists of experienced writers, educators, and literacy advocates. They carefully review and evaluate each story based on the outlined judging criteria to determine the winners in each category.

Can I submit more than one story?

Unfortunately, each participant is allowed to submit only one story per contest year. We encourage you to choose your best story and submit it for consideration.

Can I make edits after submitting my story?

Once a story is submitted, it cannot be edited or revised further. We highly recommend reviewing your story thoroughly before submitting it to ensure it meets all requirements and is error-free.

What happens to the submitted stories?

All submitted stories remain the property of the respective writers. However, by entering the contest, participants grant VEGAS PBS KIDS permission to share their stories on our website and other promotional platforms.
